Digital exercise classes transform care home wellbeing across Telford & Wrekin

  • Post last modified:14 June 2026

Fit4All is proud to announce an exciting expansion of its digital exercise programme, now reaching residents in care and residential homes across Telford & Wrekin.

Building on the success of its community-based Preventing Falls Through Exercise initiative, Fit4All has taken a significant step forward by bringing guided, chair-based exercise sessions directly into care environments—via live video calls.

Bringing movement to those who need it most

Through this innovative approach, Fit4All is now delivering live, interactive exercise classes into tens of residential homes, ensuring that even the most isolated or mobility-limited individuals can benefit from regular physical activity.

These sessions are carefully designed as chair-based exercise classes, making them safe, accessible, and inclusive for older adults and individuals with limited mobility. From gentle strength and balance work to light cardiovascular activity, every session supports participants in maintaining independence and improving overall wellbeing.

Powered by people: Trained carers leading the way

A key factor in the programme’s success is the vital role played by care staff. Dedicated carers within each participating home have completed Fit4All’s specialist training course, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to:

  • Support residents during live digital sessions
  • Encourage safe participation in exercises
  • Help residents build routine and confidence
  • Act as on-site facilitators for digital engagement

This blend of expert-led live instruction and in-person support ensures that every participant can take part safely, comfortably, and with encouragement.

From community to care homes: A natural evolution

The rollout of digital classes follows the strong impact of Fit4All’s locally delivered Preventing Falls Through Exercise programme. This initiative has already demonstrated how regular, targeted exercise can:

  • Reduce the risk of falls
  • Improve balance and strength
  • Support confidence and independence
  • Enhance mental wellbeing and social interaction

Recognising that many care home residents face barriers to accessing community sessions, Fit4All adapted the model to reach people where they are—leveraging digital technology to remove isolation and increase access.

Tackling isolation through digital connection

While physical health benefits are central, the programme also addresses another critical issue—social isolation.

Residents who join the sessions are not just exercising; they are connecting in real time with instructors and peers across multiple locations. The shared experience of participating in a live session helps:

  • Foster a sense of community
  • Boost mood and mental wellbeing
  • Create structure and routine within care settings

For many participants, these sessions have become a highlight of the week, offering both physical and emotional uplift.

A growing network across Telford & Wrekin

With demand continuing to grow, Fit4All’s digital programme is steadily expanding, with more residential homes joining the initiative each month. The organisation is committed to ensuring that every older adult, regardless of location or mobility, has the opportunity to stay active.

Driving innovation in Falls Prevention

Jude Bailey, Director of Fit4All, commented:

“We are incredibly proud to be reaching people who have traditionally been the hardest to engage in regular physical activity. By embracing digital delivery and supporting carers on the ground, we’re breaking down barriers and making exercise truly accessible.”

“At Fit4All, we pride ourselves on innovation—finding new and effective ways to raise the profile of falls prevention while ensuring our classes are inclusive and accessible to everyone who needs them most.”

Supported by local partnership

This initiative has been made possible thanks to the continued support of Telford & Wrekin Council, who are funding the programme for a second year. Their investment reflects a shared commitment to improving health outcomes, reducing falls, and enhancing quality of life for older residents across the borough.
